"Akibae" is an apple born in Nagano prefecture, and is characterized by its deep red skin. Mr. Odagiri of Nagano Prefecture bred "Chiaki" and "Tsugaru" by crossing in 1981 (Showa 56), and registered the variety in 1993 (Heisei 5).

The size is around 300-350g, and the flesh is slightly soft. The sweetness and acidity are in harmony, and there is a lot of juice and the aroma is good.

The color of the pericarp varies depending on the cultivation area and harvest time, and darker ones turn blackish red when fully ripe. There are also yellow fruit spots on the pericarp, and light brown rust may be seen around the shaft.
